New IRS Commissioner Coming Soon?

Last week, the White House signaled that they intend to nominate Danny Werfel to become the new commissioner of the IRS. Mr. Werfel served under the Obama Administration as the acting commissioner from May 2013 to December 2013, after a scathing report by the Inspector General highlighting mismanagement and bias concerning non-profit organizations.

In a statement released by the White House, they commended Mr. Werfel on being able to provide “immediate stability to the IRS, effectively responding to numerous Congressional investigations, successfully launching the Affordable Care Act technology, and navigated the IRS through a multi-week government shutdown.” Mr. Werfel also received recognition from both majority and minority leaders for the Senate Finance Committee.

Mr. Werfel currently serves as the managing director and partner of the Boston Consulting Group. He previously served in the Office of Management and Budget under President Bush and was appointed as controller of the Office of Management and Budget in 2009 under then-President Obama.
