Importance of Choosing a Tax Professional
The IRS is once again reminding taxpayers to choose their tax return preparer with care. The IRS provides a website that can be found Here that allows taxpayers to find information about the preparer’s credentials and qualifications.
It is important that before selecting a tax professional; taxpayers should ask about fees; be wary of those who claim they obtain greater refunds than others; ensure that their return is signed by the preparer with their preparer tax identification number (PTIN); ask if the preparer is planning to e-file; and make sure the preparer is going to be available for the future after filing the tax return in case questions arise.
If your tax preparer doesn’t wish to sign your return, you can report the preparer to the IRS using Form 14157 or 14157-A.
